石の上にも三年
7,8年前、吉川大先生に言われました言葉・諺でした。その意味は、冷たい石の上でも三年座り続ければ暖まるという意味から、仮令（たとえ）辛くても、耐えていれば、やがて報われるということです。
まったくその通りであると思いながらも、仕事を転々と変えてきました。仕事が変わっても、一つだけ共通点がある。それは、日本語である。日本語が大好きだし、苦労して体得した日本語を手放すのは惜しんでいるだと思います。
今日もまた、面接に行きました。2社。午前は、キャパシターを造っている会社で、日本語が話せる品証エンジニアのポストです。午後は、ゴム製品を造っている会社です。ポストは、生産管理です。
両方とも、まず聞かれたのは、なぜ仕事を転々と変えましたのですか。
事情は色々あったのですが、好きで仕事を変えたわけではなかったのだ。どう理解させてくれるのか、一苦労でした。一つの会社に勤める期間が短くても、いつもベストを尽くしたつもりでした。今まで、自分のパフォーマンスにクレームがつけられたことは無かった。
"If we employed you, how can you assure us that you won't quit after a short period of time?"
"If the company provides a good working environment, i don't think its employees will simply leave the company..."
I've got another interview appointment on April 14. Bayan Lepas. The post is what I really love to do - Technical Translator. But, after talking to mama, I have to reconsider it. Weekend or bi-weekend dad is not good for our growing son. Let's wait for the result of today's interview. Also waiting for info from a recruitment agency in S'pore. Went for interview with the agency last week. They have quite a few matching jobs. One is a sales post in a printing company. That post requires 2 years training in Japan. I was reluctant at first. But, if they allow me to take along my family, I will grab the opportunity. The main objective is to give my son a chance to live in japan - my second hometown.
Last week too, got one small proof-reading project from UK. second assignment from oversea client. Hopefully more will pour in in the future. One step closer to a full-fledged freelance translator...
